Welcome to the 21st century!!!!! Where the human genome has been identified, a seemingly never ending sequence of adenines, guanines, thymines and cytosines (AGTC). This allows for the introduction of pharmacogenetics, so that doctors can tailor a patient’s treatment regimen based on their genetics to achieve a more favourable outcome. One notable discovery was the use of trastuzumab (Herceptin), a chemotherapeutic drug that was found to be effective in breast cancer patients with HER-2 over-expression.
